The Colorado Justice Center was a redevelopment project that overlooks Denver’s Civic Center Park. The project was the last piece to completing the Civic Center Master plan. Civic Center contains some of Colorado’s most important cultural and civic buildings. Because of the significance and history of the site, a study was done of how existing buildings and public spaces addressed Civic Center Park. This research informed the Justice Center’s building form and how it was located within the site.
The main plaza fronting Civic Center Park was designed to serve not only as a grand entry to the Justice Center Courts building but also as a public space as well. A series of terraced granite seat walls facing the park create an inviting place to relax and a gathering space for parades and festivals that occur in the park.
