Woodrow Wilson Academy is a K-8 charter school in Westminster, CO. We have completed multiple projects on the campus to date starting with a site master plan. The master plan contained four different phases and we have now completed three of the four phases. The first three phases included a new basketball court, re-designed drop-off area, and a re-designed playground.
The existing playground surfacing was all pea gravel and created a poor and messy play surface for the children. The new playground is a mix of colored concrete, poured-in-place rubber play surfacing, and an artificial turf field. We incorporated a majority of the existing mature shade trees into the new design and added custom concrete seat walls around them.
The existing drop-off area was simply a concrete sidewalk and provided no shade and no place to sit while waiting to be picked up. The new drop-off area features shade trees, an ornamental railing that provides a safer place for kids to wait, and a seat wall that integrated custom art tiles from the students into it.
